Living the Grey on CD

Drawing influence from folk, soul, jazz & reggae, Georgia's vibrant & explosive compositions, heavily laden with fresh philosophy, imagery, politics, pathos & humour set her apart from the abundance of singer/songwriter/guitarists. Her narration, coupled with a sassy yet sincere stage manor, explores the many facets of the human condition, lead by her powerful vocal performance. While presenting herself as a solo artist, Georgia often brings a five piece band to the stage. Featuring lush keyboards, violins & harmonies, this Brisbane six piece blends the timeless singer/songwriter tradition with smooth, relaxed but driving grooves. Born in Aurukun, a remote Aboriginal community in Cape York Peninsula and growing up in Brisbane with strong & influential Indigenous mentors around her has meant Georgia's perspectives & reflections are often surprising for a woman of her age. They show a depth of understanding surrounding the complexities of cultural identity & tradition with a balance of criticism & optimism. Merging these perspectives with poetry & melody, Georgia's ambition is for her art to contribute and add worth in the lives of it's listeners. Performing extensively at original music venues throughout South East Queensland, Georgia recently supported Lior and South African protest singer Vusi Mahlasela, both at the Brisbane Powerhouse, performed for Valley Fiesta, Brisbane Writers Festival & Island Vibe Festival 2007 & 2008. Her song, Take it Down featured on this year's Island Vibe compilation CD & received National airplay on Triple J. She has appeared with National and local artists Jackie Marshall, Tommee (Tommee & the Neighbourhood), The Black Market Rhythm Co, Pear & the Awkward Orchestra, Andi & George, Rob Longstaff, 2006 Deadly Award Winners Banawurun (Troy n' Trevelyn) and has also developed a reputation for appearing at community events including Walk Against Warming 2007 at the Brisbane Riverstage, Oxfam Walk Against Want and a host of events supported by 4Zzz Community Radio & the Brisbane Activist Centre. After an impromptu performance Woodford Folk Festival 07 08, followed by an encore performance on New Year's Eve, December 2008 will see the online pre-release of her self-produced debut mini-album, Living the Grey, followed by itself official launch & East Coast tour in January 2009. Georgia Potter has recently completed an audio production & engineering degree at the Queensland Conservatorium (BachPopMus). She also plays with Brisbane/Gold Coast Reggae Band The Cool Calm Collective, Triple J featured artist Yeo & the Fresh Goods and is the artistic director of For Folk's Sake; a small grassroots collective that organise evenings to support acoustic and gentle electric musicians around Brisbane and South East Queensland.
