We live in a time of many changes. The historic definition of perception is beginning to alter. The physical changes eminating from within the mind and self reflect a great stirring within consciousness. Music is just one of the many forms of expression that are undergoing a creative surge. It is only natural to compare what is new to that which is familiar. Music, along with other art forms and expressions, is rapidly arriving at a new state of being. This is occurring because the expansion of consciousness and the expansion of aspects and definitions are changing so rapidly it is no longer possible to fit new music into the old molds. Musicology will never be the same. How anyone works, and what they ultimately produce is now a product of an entirely new field of technology. The very definition of musical instruments is changing. Live performance and studio performance afford different possibilities. Competition and music in a way are antithetical. All is relative, and all is unique. The doors of perception depend upon the individual. One performance, or one piece of music does not have to invalidate another. A flower stands on it's own, except that people seem to have a need to decide which is the best. All this is to say the music on this recording is not exactly like any other music. Music can change how we think and feel. Music has been written for different occasions, and even for different times of the day. There is an experimental spirit to this music. After all, why should the space scientists and genetic engineers be the only ones to risk experimentation. The arts are alive with the vigor of new ideas. In a sense, a musical idea is like a flower. Gary Michael Graves.
