Son of the legendary Hawaiian musical icon Aunty Genoa Keawe; Gary Keawe-Aiko was born in Laie, Oahu. He was one of Don Ho's early discoveries and played at Ho's mother's place in Kaneohe, Honey's Tavern. He was later featured with the Don Ho Show for many years and made several recordings with him during that period. Since then, he has performed extensively in many parts of the world including appearing at Carnegie Hall several times. __________________________________________________________ Mike Malihini Scott Canadian Steel Guitar legend Mike Malihini Scott and his group the Hawaiianaires have made many recordings during the last thirty-five years. He established himself as a skilled steel guitarist in his native country of England before moving to Canada and starting Mike Malihini Scott and his Hawaiianaires. Mike has also played as a guest guitarist with Sam Makia's Hawaiian Orchestra at the Hawaiian Room of the Lexington Hotel in New York City, with Hal Aloma at the Luau 400 in New York City and with Pua Almeida as his steel guitarist while he was playing in Toronto Canada. In 2001 he was awarded the 'Steel Man of the Year' award by the Hawaiian Steel Guitar Association (HSGA). Mike is also a composer and has written many Hawaiian songs some of which have been in cooperation with lyricist and guitarist Tony Quarrington. He is also an avid collector of Hawaiian music and his collection consists of over 8600 Hawaiian and Tahitian records. _________________________________________________________ 'The arrangements and overall sound evoke much of the feeling of those old 30's and 40's recordings down to the sound of horn arrangements, rhythm section, and vocal choruses. Remarkable! Mikes steel is impressive....harmonics are stratospheric and he has a very lush chordal and arpeggiated strum style with an unfailing vibrato. I could go on and on about 'Songs of Hawaii, Old and New." But I'll let your own ears fill in the rest. The work that went into the production of this CD is very apparent. Highly recommended!' HSGA Quarterly John Ely.
