Natural Rhythms is the new CD of rhythm-based songs by Terry Garthwaite and Becky Reardon. It's a collection of spirited original songs with melodic twists and impelling pulse, written and performed by two soulful singers and singing circle leaders who revel in the joy of rhythm. Imagine Laurie Anderson and Janis Joplin taking a turn from Starhawk and then from Dr. Seuss, and you'll have some idea of the mad and moving musical adventures Garthwaite and Reardon create with rhythms inspired by the natural world. Whether it's a polyrhythmic groove on juju magic, a playful musing on the rhythm of the heartbeat, a march about the mating season of tarantulas, a swing on spring fever, or rockin' and rollin' with a ride on the happiness train, this CD cooks from start to finish. Terry Garthwaite is an internationally known singer, song-writer, composer, producer, and teacher. Her music is an array of songs and sounds that encourage empowerment and delight, and radiate the healing nature of music. She leads workshops, classes and circles in rhythm and round, emphasizing the joy of singing together, playing with sound, and digging the musical garden. Terry has been creating infectious music since the '70s in the Joy of Cooking band. She cooks with rhythm. She writes and teaches music to lift your spirits and tune your heart. Her classes, books, and recordings reflect an awareness of the healing nature of music with songs of hope and heart. Terry began teaching workshops in the '70s and was on the staffs of both Blue Bear and Family Light music schools (the Bay Area's earliest rock schools). She has twice been awarded Marin Arts Council grants for her music. She has available several solo CDs and a double CD compilation of the Joy of Cooking. Terry and Becky Reardon have collaborated on a CD of their signature rhythmic songs, called Natural Rhythms. Becky Reardon's voice is familiar to the millions of people who heard her singing on the Charlie Brown TV specials in the 1970's and '80's. During that time, she was a regular performer at acoustic venues in the San Francisco Bay Area, as well as a studio singer for many national TV and radio commercials. She co-composed the album "The Love Reaction" with Judy Munsen, which featured the gay/lesbian anthem: "We Belong in the World". Becky lives in Taos, New Mexico, and teaches an on-going class, The Joy of Singing Harmony, and is cultivating the use of improvised singing and movement to illuminate and resolve conflict. Drawn to New Mexico in the early 90's, Becky left her urban existence for the joys of hiking in desert canyons and the high mountains. She responded to the beautiful world around her by improvising songs to the moon and stars, to the rocks and canyon walls, creating harmonies to the calls of birds and the sound of streams. Out of these joyful experiences she fashioned songs and rounds for community gatherings celebrating the solstices and other ancient holy days, and for theater groups and women's circles creating ceremonies of passage to the underworld, rebirth, transformation and affirmation. Threshold Choir founder Kate Munger introduced Becky's songs and rounds to singing circles all across the US, and they have spread far and wide, treasured for their ability to move singers and listeners to ancient places of pleasure and healing within themselves and the community created by singing together. Her songs and rounds are collected in three cds: Follow the Motion, Songs for a Walk, and Natural Rhythm, (with Terry Garthwaite).
