Inventing An Archetype on CD

'This dynamic powerhouse from Seattle combines political issues and punk rock/hardcore music into a fist of energy. These three women have achieved a unique level of intense passion and creativity with their music that has earned them recognition across the country.' - ROCKRGRL International Music Conference, 2000 Free Verse is M on drums, Lisa on bass, and Jenni on guitar. All members share songwriting duties and sing lead as well as backup vocals in styles that range from melodic to full screams. Lyrics are mainly focused on gender and economic problems in politics and society. Free Verse formed in Lawrence, Kansas in 1995. In the summer of 1998, Free Verse went on a national tour with L.A. natives Lucid Nation and moved to Seattle immediately after. Throughout their eight years together, they've played with local and national bands including Sleater-Kinney, The Blood Brothers, SNFU, The Lunachicks, Auntie Christ (formerly of X), the Cold Cold Hearts (formerly of Bratmobile), The Need, Coalesce, the Get Up Kids, The Butchies, and many other great punk and hardcore bands. They are also known for their political action, and have played benefit shows for causes including AIDS Awareness, Environmental Concerns, National Day Against Police Brutality, Books for Prisoners, various women's homeless shelters and advocacy groups, and community skate park benefits. They were recently chosen to co-headline an anti-racist tour in October 2002, sponsored by The Northwest Coalition for Human Dignity. Free Verse's discography includes a self-released full-length demo in 1996, a full-length CD Access Denied on Brainfloss Records (Los Angeles) in 1998, and a limited edition CD maxi-single on Free/Style Records (Seattle) in 2001. Free Verse's most recent release is a 6-song EP split release between Demirep Records (Seattle) and Agitprop! Records (Boston). The EP, entitled Inventing An Archetype, was released February 2003. Free Verse has also been included on several compilation albums including Ladyfest Seattle, released in 2003, Stop Rape Now, a benefit album released by Outcast Records in 2001, Kosovo Refugee Relief III released by D.A.M. in 2001, and We're Not Generation X released by GC Records in 1999. Free Verse was filmed performing live in Los Angeles for the upcoming independent film 'Angry Stunt Man,' which was released in Fall 2003.
