Lesson In Tenderness on CD

NOW AVAILABLE ON CD!!After years of touring the east coast, Fletcher C Johnson crammed his guitars, amps, synthesizers, and shakers into his fifteen passenger van and took the band out west. Following a month on the road, Fletcher ended up living in a practice space in Orange County. There he began recording his third album, Lesson In Tenderness. He bathed in a sink, slept on a van seat, pissed in a jug, and made sweet classic pop. Two guitars (Fletcher and Adam Meisterhans), bass (Todd Martin), and drums (Tom O'Brien) were laid down first. Everything else (vocals, harmonies, tambourines, and xylophones) had to be recorded in the middle of the night, when the practice space was deserted and quiet. The band returned to New York and left Fletcher to couch surf around Los Angeles, staying with friends and finding spaces to mix the new record on his computer. One night he would be in Silver Lake, sleeping behind a couch, and the next he'd be on the floor of Burger Records, Fletcher's long time label. Fletcher's folk-driven pop music covers the spectrum of 60s and 70s rock. From Buddy Holly to The Ramones, The Kinks to Neil Young. His tunes ride on an interplay between acoustic strumming and hook laden electric riffs, all building into soaring sing-along choruses. His music has been compared to surf rock in the past, maybe this time it's couch-surf rock. With Lesson in Tenderness, Fletcher holds onto his strong songwriting while pushing his sonic boundaries, adding drum machines and piano, heavy fuzz riffs and psychedelic looping, elements he pieced together while stealing King Tuff's weed from the bedside draw.
