Description

Menso on CD

Many have attempted to describe Phoenix, Arizona's Fatigo. Of the band: oddball, clever, strange, oddball auteur, absurdist, irrepressible, and, finally, supremely oddball. Of the music: lo-fi, Latin, lounge, pop, folky, jazzy, cumbia, tejano, norteño, mariachi, bossa nova, and not-quite-rock/not-quite-ordinary, to name a few. We admit it; Fatigo is all of those things...and a whole lot more. The smart-aleck behind the microphone is Mike Montoya. No doubt his amped-up, Madonna-graced nylon string guitar will intrigue you, as will his bi-lingual singing ability. The jovial guy behind the drum kit is John De La Cruz, the most stylish and stylistically-diverse drummer in the Sonoran Desert. Yes, you may hug him after the show. Dan Sitzler rounds out the band on bass. But wait, there's more! On any given night, the trio may become a quartet through the addition of multi-instrumentalist Robin Vining on accordion, keyboards, and harmonies. At other times, Kevin Cardoza will join on trumpet, completing the quintet. Don't worry, you will not be charged more for the additional entertainment. Impossible as it may seem, we were recently able to capture this musical insanity onto a single compact disc for your listening enjoyment. We give you Menso, Fatigo's second full-length album and antidote to sophomore slumps everywhere. You can look forward to naked cats, streetwise mice, rats with wings, lovelorn luminaries, and, of course, the four-song saga of the desert-stranded, levitating polar bear and his homicidal scorpion nemesis. Engineered and mixed by Greg Naylor at Sound Tracks Studios, in Mesa, Arizona and mastered by Roger Siebel at SAE Mastering in Phoenix, Arizona, it promises to satisfy musical desires you didn't even know you had.
