In Focus on CD

The evolution of a 25-year friendship among five noted upstate NY musicians has resulted in another outstanding musical collaboration. Fans of Eye Level, a favorite of the area jazz scene, can have a preview of their long-awaited CD project, In Focus. Eye Level is the sum of Mark Copani on guitar, Ron France as bassist, Jimmy Johns on drums, the saxophone of John Rohde, and Andy Rudy at keyboards. The combined history of these noted musicians is a Who's Who of both local jazz standouts and national icons of the music industry. Collectively, the talent that is Eye Level has toured and/or recorded with Doc Severinson, Cedar Walton, Cabo Frio, Benny Mardones, Nancy Kelly and more. They have been the backbones of many of the best-loved bands of Central New York since the 70s, including Atlas, Ronnie Leigh and Alliance, Mr. Gone, Blue Food, Heitzman and Savoca, and Out of the Blue, to name a few. The seed of the band was planted at Dewitt, NY's Soo-Lin restaurant 28 years ago when Mark Copani met bassist Ron France when he was playing with a band in need of a guitarist. As bands will morph over the years, the seed grew and for the last 8 years, Eye Level has maintained it's current formation, to release this second CD of captivating jazz originals. Although the world of jazz led all of these five out on the road to hone their skills with various famous names of the business, a commitment to Upstate New York and upholding it's own jazz tradition has kept Eye Level home fulfilling the dream. Now, the inspiration and language of their collective musical knowledge results in a project that was nearly 2 years in the making. Recorded at Sub Cat Studios in Skaneateles, NY, and engineered by Ron Keck, this CD's play list highlights each of the 5-pointed star that is Eye Level's personnel.
