Face a Face [Import] on CD

Eric Truffaz has covered a lot of ground - both literally and metaphorically - since releasing his first album on the Blue Note label in 1996. Recorded in several locations but cut to sound like a single concert, FACE A FACE reveals the success of this artist who, with consistency and determination, has travelled a long road to success that has been filled with detours, long stretches in the fast lane and occasional pit stops, but which has never veered away from the source of his originality and the happiness of his waking dream. For Truffaz, each concert is a chance to meet his public "face à face". And it's this exchange between musicians and their audiences - the source of his inspiration - that Truffaz has set out to recreate in venues across the world (a point he makes between two tracks on the album) from Mexico, Saint Petersburg and Madrid to Bombay, Lausanne, and Paris. This direct contact with the public fosters an intimate relationship prized by musicians, a sort of chemistry that's as unpredictable as it is fragile and which adds another dimension to concerts that studio recordings never quite manage to achieve. The twenty tracks that make up this double album recall just a few of these unforgettable moments from among the hundreds that exist in the memory of those who were lucky enough to experience them. When these timeless performances, which words can't even begin to describe, begin to work their "magic", the music takes on a life of it's own, transported by a strange osmosis with the public, that only the musicians can truly understand. His public flocks to his concerts because they want to experience these moments of pure inspiration, while jazz musicians take to the stage in the hope of transforming their sound, providing just one of the reasons why Erik Truffaz wanted to preserve at least a taste of this experience on disc.
