Grasping at Straws on CD

Ember After burns hard and heavy through a dark mechanized landscape. Ember After throws it's light upon hypocrisy and isolation using thoughtful words served up with heavy beats, grinding guitars, soaring male and female vocals, and menacing electro-mechanical atmospherics. Comprised of the embers from various alternative, progressive, metal, goth, industrial, and experimental bands, the songs of Grasping at Straws are the brainchild of singer/songwriter/instrumentalist Orren Merton. However, the accomplishments of the many other Ember Members range from underground infamy and live notoriety throughout the American West in bands such as Darkling Thrush and Aaron English, to the international success of UK's Republica and Israel's Monica Sex. Grasping at Straws, Ember After's first full length album, brings it's mixture of hope and hopelessness to the masses for the first time. The rest of the songs range from punchy slices of defiance such as "The Faker," "Paradise," and "Link" to moody and reflective songs such as "Grasping at Straws," "Only You Remain," "Disconnected," and "Change." The CD includes a full-color, 12-page booklet including artwork, band photos, and complete lyrics to every song. From their base in Southern California, Ember After shines upon the doubt, deceit, and isolation that passes for "modern life." With Grasping at Straws, Ember After firmly stakes out it's dark, heavy, electro-drenched territory. These Embers have just started smoldering...
