Welcome to the Mental Stadium on CD

David Lopes a/k/a Dopey Lopes is a contemporary Songwriter and Performer based in New York City who has been pursuing his craft of songwriting and performing since 1987. Since that time he has performed with such notable acts as 'Cypress Hill', 'The Meat Puppets', 'Miracle Legion', 'The Dead Milkmen', 'The Neighborhoods', 'Willie Nile', and 'Neutral Nation' among numerous others. Having written hundreds of songs over the years, Mr. Lopes has never been one to bow to convention. A personal and evocative writing style, along with unique arrangements developed over the past 15 years place Mr. Lopes in a category by himself. Yet all the while he remains largely unknown within the mainstream of music. Mr. Lopes is considered by his peer's and his fans to be a true American original, and one of Rock and Roll's last true believers. His songs tell his story, with titles like 'You're the Starlight', 'Life's Harsh Reality', 'Rock and Roll Heartache', and 'Media Whore'. The 1998 release 'Welcome to the Mental Stadium' garnished significant airplay on college and AAA radio. Since then two follow-up CD's have been recorded and are awaiting near-future release. Mr. Lopes is considering either a 2-CD set or an anthology collection/retrospective that will collect his 10 most recent recordings and couple them with selections from his catalog spanning back to the early 90's. His Music and live performances have long captured the respect of both listener and fellow musician. An ASCAP member since 1997, Mr. Lopes is proud to be a 5 time recipient of the organization's 'ASCAP PLUS' award.
