In Order Alphabetical on CD

Dexter Bentley's closest reference points musically are blues and folk music, though sung with a distinct English twang. With a rather casual attitude towards what is fashionable, their lyrics are compelling analyses of everyday tragedies like filling out your tax return, being stuck in a stale relationship or taking a girl who hogs the candy floss to the beach. Their debut album 'In Order Alphabetical' is a great big selection box of lovely treats - at one extreme there is the pared-down rhythmic chant of 'Cry Now', with it's thrilling, booming group vocal lines, and at the other there is 'Fishtank', a gorgeous drone track that sounds like an acoustic My Bloody Valentine. In between there are all the harmoniums, kazoos, toy accordions and agitated Scottish poets that one could wish for. Richard bentley: vocals, acoustic guitar, kazoo, bass ric clark: 12 string acoustic guitar, accordion, mandolin, harmonica, egg and spoons, kazoo, backing vocals joss cope: semi-acoustic guitar, backing vocals simon dye: organ, tres, melodica, bass, piano, backing vocals ean ravenscroft: drums, percussion, backing vocals simon beresford: spoons on 'guggenheim' alan boyd: harmonium on 'fishtank' gerry mitchell: Scottish poet chris modica: handclaps/backing vocals on 'go to hell' adaesi ukairo: backing vocals on 'sitting pretty little bird' recorded at the moat by tonmeister toby robinson & lee bowman except 'brown envelope' recorded by alan boyd 'In Order Alphabetical' can also be purchased through iTunes from this link: http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?playListId=156378828 Dexter Bentley also host the 'Hello Goodbye' show which is broadcast every Saturday lunchtime between noon and 1.30pm (GMT)on London's premier community arts radio station Resonance 104.4 FM.(www.resonancefm.com) Occasional excursions into poetry, drama and sound art aside, the show revolves around the one thing that excites the Bentleys most... MUSIC! Whether your thing is electro-punk, avant-pop or good old free-folk it will be heard on the Hello Goodbye show. Each week at least 2 acts perform live in session. If there is a general ethos to the show it is to champion the unsung heroes of the underground music scene: those marginalised & unclassifiable mavericks who might otherwise find themselves with little or no exposure elsewhere. With a distinct leaning towards people of a DIY disposition, dB are proud to be witnessing a whole host of former guests starting to move onwards and upwards. Having said that, the show is not averse to an occasional appearance by already established musical pioneers. A visit from folk legends Pete and Peggy Seeger was a particularly memorable case in point. With five year olds among the presenters and the age of guests ranging from 16 to 86, the show has no door policy or dress code...if you have something to say and are striving for something unique then you will definitely be welcome on Resonance 104.4 FM every Saturday between noon and 1.30pm (GMT) on the Dexter Bentley Hello Goodbye show.
