Dark Summer Dawn on CD

Deejer, the Austin Texas modern rock band whose 2005 debut provoked wide-spread audience response is back with their sophomore effort, Dark Summer Dawn, a powerful counter-assault on personal and global frustration backed by the maturity and perspective that come with a follow-up release. Dark Summer Dawn will be unleashed in may 2008, and is a noticeably heavier effort, challenging the listener to go deeper into intense, thought-provoking music. Dark Summer Dawn builds in layers beginning with hard-hitting yet intricate drums tightly wound together by an equally formidable bass sound. Skillful melodies are then ignited by the fire of aggressive rhythm guitars. The instruments' entwined musical lines converge with dark lyrics and melodic vocals to bring forth a dynamic that deconstructs the emotions we all face in this complicated modern world. Deejer's music reflects the depth of the band's collective experience. Born into music as the son of a singer, lead vocalist Chris Didear got his start as a drummer and rocked Austin's local scene until finding his voice in Deejer. Lead guitar and backup vocalist Dave Erickson's musical roots are planted deep in Alabama and Tennessee, where he spent his youth playing and studying music. Guitarist Jeff Hurst is a born-n-bred Texan with the drawl and guitar licks to prove it. An upbringing as the son of a Texas preacher man echoes in J.R. Shirley's bass rhythm and vocal harmony. Drummer Gary Hopkins grew up on east coast metal in NY, and touring out of Las Vegas pushed him to create his own dominant and signature drumming style. The blend of the artists' backgrounds leads to a sound that is at once pioneering and deep-rooted. Deejer was formed by the band's lead vocalist, Chris Didear. After showcasing in the Florida Music Festival and recording with Pete Thornton (Shinedown, Limp Bizkit), the group released it's debut CD, Grief Can Kill An Elephant, in 2005. The album's first single, Farther Figure, charted at #27 on the FMQB specialty radio chart, was in rotation on XM Radio Unsigned, featured in A&R Worldwide's Unearthed Vol. 3 compilation, and included in the Edge Magazine's The Real Texas Edge Vol. 3 compilation. The song All I Ever Wanted reached the top 5 in the heavy rock category of the 2005 Independent Music Awards. Another track, The Arrow, appeared on Alternative Addiction's V.5 compilation. Dark Summer Dawn was recorded and produced by Mark Dufour (Ghostland Observatory, Blue October) and was mastered by Dominick Maita (Fallout Boy, Plain White T's). Deejer's Dark Summer Dawn is rock the way it should be played - with power and heart... if you think you know Deejer, you will want to listen again.
