Born at a late-night brainstorming session at a Phoenix-area Denny's of all places, The Cremains quickly gelled musically and began playing local-area shows. The band released their first independent CD in 1997 entitled Hate You (JBB Songs) and a three-song demo CD in 2000. Their singular style of songwriting and performance earned them the title "Native American Rock Band of the Year" in 1999 by the Sunnyside Newspaper, and praise from international magazine Native Peoples . The hard-working Cremains were also awarded a "Best of Phoenix" honor in 2001 by The New Times were featured in the Arizona Republic in April 2002 and included in the December 2006 issue of Guitar World. The host of Below the Bass on KUPD, said that The Cremains put on "an amazing set." Fans adore their singular sound, live energy and respect for their Native roots, which makes them one of the most unique Native performances in the Southwest to see.
