Negative on CD

The Cold Approach is Ethan Kennett, Dave Sartory and Chris Kelly. Started in September of 1997, they joined forces to share their styles and musical backgrounds. The group gelled quickly and began playing shows at their school, Wheaton College. 'Songs that were almost written got thrown into the show.' -So By 1998, the group had put together a full repertoire of original music, ranging from alternative rock to power-pop. The energy of their live shows quicky won them a devoted following. Dave's strong vocals and guitar work melded perfectly in the complex rhythmic foundation provided by the coarse groove of Chris and the over-the-top drumming of Ethan. In addition, their crowd interaction and stage presence earned them a particular appeal with high-school and college crowds. 'Visitation is a privilege here long gone -- medication is a surrogate word for God.' - No Anthem The music of The Cold Approach is blunt and poignant. 'The band name sums it up,' says Ethan. 'We're not trying to slip any hidden message in behind the music; we're just not afraid to tell people how we think.' Lyrics are very important to Dave and Ethan, the band's principal songwriters. Many of TCA's songs attack social norms and inherently alienate a few people. Chris remarks, 'You can't continue to deny that there are people out there who disagree with how everything is going these days. We're trying to take a less aggressive, but equally important, stance on issues and trying to appeal to a wider market in doing so.' 'Let's start a war to protect ourselves -- we'll all be safe in the prison cells.' - Quick With the Kerosene Dave comments, 'A lot of people out there feel completely overwhelmed by youth culture. There are a lot of good kids whose accomplishments are being overlooked and marginalized due to the negative actions of their peers. We feel a particular connection to these kids and we try to express this in our music.' So in the summer of 1999, the band entered the studios at Moppet Music to record their first album, 'Negative.' Released on October 22, 1999, the CD includes 12 original songs and an interactive ECD portion for computer users with lyrics, video, and other bonuses.
