A Ten Talent sister, Cjay does it all and does it well. Her self title debut Album (EP) list her as singer songwriter but that's not the half of it. She's a producer of live shows, videos and soon to be, her own hit TV show Cjay's Gospel Groove. She's a choreographer, a director, a writer of musicals and sketch comedy. She's an actress, dancer ...did I mention she can really sing. The best thing about all that Cjay has to offer as an artist is her willingness to share. Whether it be the lime light or her heart for people Cjay shares with others through the many gifts God has given her. People have said Cjay has a glow of cool confidence and care all at the same time that makes you just want to be around her. Her infectious joy and love of laughter can lighten the air in the densest room. Cjay grew up in Albany NY where she first began singing with her churches junior choir. Even in her early teens she possessed a powerful solo voice and conviction that made for a confident singer. She later began traveling with the Rudolph V. Stinney Choral Ensemble and also made guest solo appearances at different churches through out the state. Cjay received a full scholarship to the Empire State Institute of Performing Arts in Albany. When she moved to NYC she quickly made a strong impression landing leading roles in productions of Sweet Charity and a national tour of Dreamgirls, both of which required great dancing skills and a big beautiful voice. Soon after she landed her first Broadway show, the remake of the Tom Hanks movie Big the musical. After Big she was cast in another Broadway show soaked with soulful singing called Street Corner Symphony. Currently you can be seen Cjay on Broadway when she makes guest appearance as a Dynamite in Hairspray a show that she was a dance captain for, maintaining the Tony nominated choreography. In 1999 Cjay was asked to head a performing arts program for children and was instrumental in curriculum development at the HOPE for Kids School of the Arts in Washington Heights where she served as program director nurturing the creative expression of inner city youth. Cjay along with her brother Kelvin has written and is directing and choreographing a new production of Carmen A Bigger Bounce where hip- hop meets opera and falls in love. This innovative production is being mounted in Zurich with the talented youth in Europe. She's been called upon to choreograph live shows for Pop, R&B and Latin artist, television specials and numerous special events at Madison Square Garden and other arena's across the country. Her work has been performed for presidents and foreign dignitaries. She choreographed the 2000 Mc Donald's Gospel Fest that air on NBC and won an Emmy that year. She also choreographed The History of Gospel Music and Your Arms to Short To Box With God at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. Cjay is currently the host of the hot gospel showcase in Manhattan called Sunday Night Gospel Groove where she performs for packed crowds and introduces new artist in the urban gospel scene. The show is in pilot production for a televised run aptly named Cjay's Gospel Groove. You will also find Cjay traveling the country performing her one woman show Bus Trippin' which is a laugh out loud trip down memory lane. She seamlessly plays a host of captivating characters ranging in age from 8 to 80 yrs old. After each show she gives a free concert featuring some of the original songs debut on this album. As a singer/songwriter and all around entertainer, Cjay is truly extraordinary you will find few as gifted as she is. But combined with the power in the message she brings you will find fewer still; it is truly the narrow road.
