Description

Runner on CD

Christy and the Nonos is an LA band that believes in the redemption, joy and beauty of pop music. We have just finished our first independently produced album THE RUNNER. The album follows a man named Christy through a fantastical night - as he meets up with the NoNos, three lady-singers who prod, seduce, confront and cajole him into finding a new sense of being. This concept album takes you on journey - a soulful theatricalized Buddha pop-opera, or popera! Our 2 singles from The Runner Album Los Angeles (trk 5) a tribute to LA & Hold me Baby (trk 8) Soulful, old school slo-jam with warm romantic vocals About the band These songs were written for our stage show 'Nowhere to Run' - a theatrical music odyssey. Premiered at the LA GLBT center at it's theater and music festival, it was singled out as LA WEEKLY's "performance pick of the week." The project was then selected by the Mark Taper "New Works Festival" to be workshopped and performed for LA festival audiences. Over the last few years the show has evolved as we have performed around Los Angeles (Café Largo, Club Fais DoDo, Stages outdoor theater, Evidence Room/Bootleg...). Dedication This album is dedicated to everyone who, at some point in their life, used their hairbrushes as a microphone in their bedroom inside a stucco-walled house in a horrid town and perfected the lip-synching to Janis Ian records or Phoebe Snow or Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell, Elton John, Aretha, Laura and LaBelle, Bette, Rickie Lee Jones, Bob Marley, Linda Ronstadt, Karla Bonoff.
