Christine Campbell is a committed environmentalist and social activist who listens deeply to the natural world around her. She translates what she hears into stories and songs that use her voice and multiple instruments for the modern listener. She seeks to speak for those who are not heard and those who have been silenced. Journeys of the Wolf was inspired by Christine's lifelong connection with nature and her respect for all creatures, especially the wolf. Before writing the words and music, she sat and listened to the world around her, heard the stories of two wolves, and translated what she heard into a story for the modern ear. Journeys of the Wolf is a contemporary offering based on the age-old tradition of story telling. It intertwines the tribal storytelling, drumming, and singing with progressive music to move the listener through the story as it travels between two worlds; that of a she-wolf, and a woman holding the vision. Musicians John Swana (EVI Wind Synth), Chico Huff (Fretless Bass), Joe Mullen (Percussion) and John Canan (Storyteller) heard the story and took part in the journey. Together they transformed Christine's vision into a masterpiece that joins narratives with inspired improvisational music that gives life to the mystery of the wolf. Journeys is a touching interweaving of life's lessons thru the eyes of a She Wolf. We see her birth, her childhood, her love, and her life. The listener soon realizes that the worlds of the She-Wolf, Woman, Musicians and Storyteller are united together. Journeys of the Wolf is an interactive experience. It invites the listener to move from observer to engaged participant in the ceremony of life. The swirling beauty of the music coupled with the sometimes-stark narrative speaks to our collective soul and it's on-going search for meaning. The story reminds us that all humans, creatures, and beings have a place and purpose on this earth and that we are all indeed one. It takes a community to grow a vision! The wolves howl their gratitude for all who bring their songs to light! Aho!
