The four poems were selected from Edward Searl's collection of seasonal reflections A Beggar's Bouquet. Chris Garofalo has been active as a pianist and accompanist in the Chicago area for many years and composed works for solo piano, voice, and choral ensembles. As a soloist, he has performed in Beethoven's Choral Fantasy and J. S. Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 5. In 1990, he appeared on the television series Music Alive! Sponsored by the Chicago Department of Film and Entertainment. With a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance from the Manhattan School of Music, he has been the Director of Music at a Unitarian Church since 1987 and maintains a private teaching studio. Previous recordings, produced by Melinda Perrin, include: Left Brain/Right Brain (1998), Earth Air Fire Water (1989), Luminaria (1990), and Soliloquy (1991). In 1999, he accompanied tenor Henry Pleas on his first CD: Deep River: A Spiritual Journey. Tenor,Henry H. Pleas, was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois and became active in music from an early age. At Brown University, he received the Madeira Prize for Excellence in Music and continued studies attending the University of Illinois and Northwestern University where he received a Master of Music degree. Currently, he is a doctoral candidate in Vocal Performance at the University of Illinois. He has appeared as leading tenor in Operatic productions for Lyric Opera of Chicago, Opera Grand Rapids, Skylight Opera Theater, and Chicago Opera Theater. He has appeared as a soloist with orchestra in Beethoven's Missa Solemnis, Mozart's Requiem, Handel's Messiah, Vaughan William's Hodie, and Adolphus Hailstork's Done Made My Vow. During his career, he has collaborated with conductors Michel Singher and David Lockington, and vocalists Nancy Pifer, Jonita Lattimore, and the late William Warfield. The repertoire of this gifted performer includes: Schubert's Winterreise, Liszt's Petrarch Sonnets, and the works of Benjamin Britten. His previous recordings are: Deep River: A Spiritual Journey (1999) and Cantata (2003).
