Description

Cognition on CD

After 40 days and 40 nights in the desert, Caterine saw a vision. That is when he realized that he shouldn't have stayed up for so long. Actually, it was five years in the desert of Las Vegas, Navada, Sin City and City of False Light. Jimmy Caterine's vision was fading when he met keyboardist Mike Jordet during a short tenure with metal band G.O.D - Gathering Of Deities in 1998/99. Jordet shared Caterine's love for classical music and it was this common ground that would produce two brilliant compositions,'Venice' and 'Intrigue'. This was the spark that lit the fire. Caterine started pre production for Cognition in June 1999. During the recording of the drum tracks Caterine suffered an injury to his left arm, leaving his wrist and fingers paralysed. The recording was postponed indefinitely. After 8 long months and continuous physical therapy Caterine reached full recovery and was able to resume recording in April of 2000. Following completion, Caterine relocated to Phoenix, Arizona where the disk would be mastered, but once again a negative turn of events on April 28, 2001 would postpone any further progress towards Cognition's release. The combination of an automobile accident followed by medical negligence would send the musician through several surgeries on his left eye. November 2002, with a completed disk in hand and two dozen on the way to family members, Caterine makes a phone call to his oldest friend and co- founder of Sacred Rite, drummer, Kevin Lum. There was no answer which was unusual. The news of Lums death hit Caterine harder than anything he'd been through. Caterine and Lum were bandmates for 10 years at which point Lum resigned due to illness. Cognition's design and concept were formulated at it's beginning stages back in 1999. It's journey is a journey of life and the visions or premonitions that we touch on for mere moments. The moments that turn into our future. It's about the bonds that we share on this journey. Some that are so strong that you share the same pain even though you are miles away and haven't had contact for weeks, months or even years. Cognition: kag-'ni-shen n. [come to know] (15 cen.) the act or process of knowing, including both awareness and judgment. Cognition was written and produced by Caterine except for 'Intrigue' and 'Venice' which were co-written wth Jordet.
