The album deftly shuffles two sessions. The first, recorded in New York, includes the inimitable Mike Stern, bassist Lincoln Goines, and percussionist Tim Keiper. Jeff Sipe subs on drums for "Stern Language," an original by producer Chris Cortez. The album's opener is a playful vehicle for it's eponymous guitarist and firmly establishes a webbed sound. Morgan's late entrance (emblematic of her democratic approach) flirts with the groove, catching and releasing in a dance of delicate energies. A lively version of "Tea for Two" spikes this mixture of new moods with familiar delight and shows the flexible quality of the band at it's most intimate levels. Carol counters with two memorable originals of her own. "To Be Continued" balances the surrounding octane with sweet sangria and is the deepest venue for Morgan's lyrical arc, while "Wholly-O" is a more swinging number with some of Mike's finest playing of the set.
