Call Me Daddy Cool / Various on CD

Bassist, vocalist, songwriter, engineer and producer Charles Davis got his start in music in the late '80s, rapping with a Southern California group called Double Exposure. The band got picked up by Columbia Records, but was dropped before an album could be recorded. Following this, Davis relocated a little further north, where he worked as a session musician and studied jazz under trumpeter Ray Brown (former sideman in the Stan Kenton Orchestra). The early '90s found Davis back in Southern California, seeking work as a songwriter and producer. Some bad deals left him unhappy with the local scene, and he began playing bass in area Baptist churches. He returned to Northern California in the mid-'90s and spent a year as the bassist in a Latin jazz and rock band named Resin. The group recorded Where the Sidewalk Meets the Universe, then Davis left the band in 1996. That same year, he recorded and produced his jazz debut as a leader, Collective Eclective, which he released the following year. Davis has recorded and performed with musicians including Kurt Stenzel (Cookin' with Kurt), '80s pop singer Martika, young jazz pianist Jacob Aginsky, Parliament bassist Donnie Sterling, and more. During the late '90s, Charles Davis was active as a bass instructor in addition to his role as a producer, session player, and engineer for studios in the Bay Area. The new album entitled 'Call Me Daddy Cool' features original music composed, produced and performed by Charles Davis of Daddy Cool Productions.
