Here Be Monsters on CD

BURLAP LUTE, based in the Philadelphia area, first began making music together playing medieval and Renaissance dances for revels held by the Society for Creative Anachronism, and has since expanded it's repertoire to include Celtic and European traditional music, modern folk, and original pieces by composer/arranger Paul Butler (whose anagrammed name inspired the group's moniker). Combining traditional folk instruments like guitar, violin, pennywhistle, and flute with early instruments including recorders, harp, and cornamusen, Burlap Lute creates a unique acoustic sound blending old and new folk traditions. That sound has been presented at a diverse set of venues, from Renaissance faires to coffeehouses and art festivals. The ensemble's four members have been playing together for over a decade in various capacities. They are: Paul Butler on lead vocals, violin, mandolin, harp, percussion, recorders, and cornamusen. Wendy Gale on flute (any one of many in her ever-growing collection), recorder, cornamuse, and vocals. Jennifer McGuire on recorders, pennywhistle, and vocals. Chris Robinson on guitar, mandolin, octave mandolin, and vocals. Guest musician Alfred Goodrich adds cello and digeridoo to the band's debut album.
