For the Living on CD

For The Living finds Bullets&Bubblegum revisiting several tracks from their 1999, self-titled debut - the demo for the LP took number one in that year's Demo Derby featured in the Seattle Rocket [weekly arts & entertainment newpaper]. The five songs culled from the band's debut took on a new dimension and clearly stood out in the band's live performances with the addition of drummer Amy Hanson in 2002. It seemed necessary for the band to record the songs with a fresh perspective and reintroduce them to their new and growing, worldwide fan base. The modern post-punk style of the EP is highlighted by densely layered, melodic guitars, tonic rhythms and the beat-style lyrical postulation of vocalist Kimberly Reed. While the recordings pay homage to the underground pop and art sensibilities of bands like Wire, Cocteau Twins and Concrete Blonde, Bullets&Bubblegum clearly establish their own territory with unique songwriting, alternate guitar tunings and lyrics that focus on life and dreams in a post-peak oil world. Intuitive cynicism flows alongside introspective truth and optimism in For The Living, a refreshing reinvention of Bullets&Bubblegum's original and provocative sound.
