About Brotha Bill Brotha Bill Biography One of the newest inductees into the neo-soul renaissance is Brotha Bill, whose debut CD is set to drop in January 2005. Those who have experienced his fusion of poetic verse and energetic R&B funk are sure to cherish the kinetic vibe in their own home. Reminiscent of a basement jam session,he performs with a five-piece band who indulges in a moment of euphoria as if caught in the rapture of nature's elements. The guitar licks streak like lightening across a bass horizon only to be followed by a thunderous vibration of drums. The percussionist ignites the bongos with the precision of an African tribesman belting out a call and response. The keyboardist leads the frenzy of ostinato and just when it comes to a hilt, they pause on one beat: Brotha Bill has commanded the mic. Brotha Bill's essence is a lyrical flow that sets him apart from other neo-soul artists. His style emanates from the heart of Soho circa 1974, replacing the airy afro with locks. His eclectic outfits compliment his slim 6'2 frame. Even his gait exudes the confidence of a conscious, provocative man who seeks to empower the people through his mission. 'My music has a cool, hip message to wake up the mind.' Cognizant of the trailblazers of the past, he creates his own suave style but for a more tangible reference, think Lenny Kravitz's charisma, Maxwell's sultriness, Bootsy Collin's funk and Marvin Gaye's mystique Claiming Gary, Indiana and Chicago, Illinois as hometowns, Brotha Bill has steadily improved his craft in the LA entertainment scene for the past four years. His music career was spawned at an early age upon atriculation to Emerson Visual and Performing Arts High School. Soon after graduation he formed a group, Black to Black, that was nurtured by notable manager Jimmy Newton. In 1999, Brother Bill and prominent producer/engineer Booker T. Jones conceived BaldHeadDread, who garnered significant exposure when they scored the movie soundtrack for Ragdoll. Both projects were stepping stones to help him launch his solo venture. But it was Brotha Bill's extraordinary stage performance playing Marvin Gaye that continues to bolster his fan base and has led to television and film appearances. Frequently billed as the featured act, spoken word connoisseurs have savored their first exposure to a phenomenon in the making. The ecstatic energy he displays regardless of the audience size is what club promoters covet. 'Keep It Real Brotha Bill' is one of the hooks chanted by the performer as he ascends upon the stage. He allows his band a few moments of the spotlight as they entice the crowd with their fierce head-bopping funk. Brotha Bill's versatility is evident in the range of songs he selects to perform at a given venue. As part of his unveiling, he has remained true to his genre of soul/funk but the talented singer/songwriter has penned songs for movie soundtracks and can hold his own if challenged to freestyle. Change is a throwback to What's Going On by his inspiration Marvin Gaye. Oh Baby is a revival of the uncelebrated bonding between close male friends as they ad-lib about the nuances of relationships. 'I love the way my baby treats me/Even though my hair is nappy.' Brotha Bill's debut CD will showcase the dynamic blend of smooth grooves and conscious-raising lyrics with appreciated tracks such as You and I, Refine, and Feel the Funk. Brotha Bill is at a crescendo literally and figuratively. He will continue live performances in the Los Angeles and Chicago areas for the duration of 2005 with an ensuing national tour planned for the second quarter of 2006. He is also working on upcoming hot singles with producer Smash Hits. For more information email Brothabill@mac.com.
