Paint the Evening Sky on CD

Former deepnine front man singer songwriter Brent Roberts serves up some unusually tasty electronic pop candy in his debut "Paint the Evening Sky." The songs, mostly sung in Roberts mesmerizing hush, are catchy melodic gems built around strong lyric writing chops. Standouts include the upbeat Pet Shop Boy-esque "Bring Down the Lights", the Radiohead meets Motown flavored "Come Away" and the lush layered adult alternative single "Light in August". Roberts, the proud father of two, works in a raucous dance punk (d-unk?) tune "Twinkle" with his son that will have the Barney set tapping their toes. From the introduction Brent writes: 'i remember back in the 1980s first hearing devo's hit whip it and thinking oh my god i could have done that. I started writing lyrics then and there, and my first creation was called smash a glass. The whole point was inanity. I still have the book i wrote it in. It also contains endless love style duets for myself and deborah harry, album cover doodles, band names (we were the airheads then), stage names for myself and my sister (mine stuck) and then page after page of lyrics. What started out funny became a sort of short hand way for me to pour out my teen longing and despair. As you turn the pages you can see my frustrated desires, depression, joys, humor and hope right there. I hope you enjoy this CD. It is the long overdue result of many years of keeping every scrap i write in journals. What started out as a lark for me became an all consuming passion. I learned a long time ago, mostly from my frustrations, to trust the process and just show up. ^#^to let the quality take care of itself. I think most of life is like this. Show up for whatever your dreams are and let the universe handle the details. I never would have dreamt i could produce a CD as beautiful as this when whip it was all the rage and yet i have always intended to. In the end i just kept writing - for more than 10 years on some of these songs - and i thank the universe for taking care of everything else.' The album was mixed by multi-Wammy Award winner Marco Delmar and mastered by Antonio Pacheco at Recording Arts in Fairfax VA. It features guest musicians Amikaeyla Gaston and Marco Delmar. The CD packaging was designed by Brent and consists of a very unusual and beautiful 8x6 gift book with no hard plastic casing.
