Mr. Bogachek is known for his uncompromising individuality and wide-ranging musical interests. His love for salon, gypsy, and crossover classical music from the early 20th century grew from his boyhood fascination with the recordings of Georges Boulanger, Barnabas von Geczy, and Grigoras Dinicu. It was reinforced during his strolling violin days at Cafe Sankt Peterburg, where he collaborated with noted composer Yakov Yakulov. Professional encounters with Abram Shtern provided further insight and inspiration in his search for a unique performing style. On this recording Zino Bogachek plays a Vittorio Villa violin (2003), and Benoit Rolland bow (2005) commissioned by the artist. Anna Balakerskaia received her Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from the St. Petersburg State Conservatory and was later appointed Faculty Member of the Moscow and the St. Petersburg State Conservatories. Ms. Balakerskaia has collaborated with such noted artists as Leonid Kogan, Kirill Kondrashin, Victor Tretyakov, Daniel Shafran, Dmitri Tziganov, Vladimir Landsman, and Michael Ganvarg among others.
