Drummer, Singer, & Songwriter One of Oakland-San Francisco Bay Area's premier drummer, Robert L. (Bobby) Cochran was born in Columbia, South Carolina on May 20th 1946. Raised in a musical family in which his mother was a very talented singer. Bobby started playing drums at age seven, and studied piano and trumpet. He learned to read music early under the tutoring of Prof. Harold H. June. Bobby attended Booker T. Washington High School that went from the 7th to 12th grades. He played in the marching and concert bands in high school, as well as, playing on the High School Allstate Band for two (2) years. Drafted into the Army during his sophomore year in College, he spent the next two years playing drums in the 22nd Army Band. Bobby receiving his honorable discharge in 1968, and was selected to be part of a USO entertainment tour, traveling to Korea and Japan. He landed a six month run playing rhythm and blues at Caesar's Palace in Tokyo. By the time he moved to San Francisco a year later, his passion and commitment to a professional career was firmly established. Bobby has performed with: Bobby Freeman, The New Generation Singers; The Edwin Hawkin Singers; The San Francisco Premier Rock Group, "Cold Blood" Bobby was then recruited by Tom Fogerty ("Credence Clearwater Revival") and performed with Tom's new group where Bobby played, and sang on three (3) LPs, writing two of the songs. In 1982 Bobby formed the C.C. Connection, a popular Jazz / R&B group. During this time he performed with Jazz Artists: Faye Carol; Lorez Alexander; & Ernie Andrews. Bobby entered the Bay Area Blues scene playing with Lady Bianca, Mark Naftalin, and Bobby Reed. Bobby brought together blues/jazz Carl Lockett and Tony Davis to form a hot trio "Straight Shot", winning the Bay Area Top Star award as "Trio of the Year" ('86 & '87). He also played with: John Lee Hooker and daughter Zakia Hooker; Bobby Murray and Freddie; and Derrick Hughes. Toured: France, Switzerland, and Holland on a Tom Massolini, San Francisco European Blues Tour., with the Etta James Rhythm section. Performed with Maria Muldour; Blues legend Lowell Folsom; and joined the Jimmy McCracken band. In 1997 was called to play in the legendary Sy Klopps Blues Band, joined the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Songwriter Elvin Bishop. In 2000 the band was awarded CD of the Year, "That's My Partner" with Smokey Smothers & Elvin Bishop. In 2002, Bobby accompanied Elvin Bishop, Charlie Musselwhite, Debra Coleman, Henry Butler, and Corie Harris on "The Front Porch Blues Tour", to major colleges across the U.S. In 2003, Bobby recorded a CD with the legend of Country Music, Vaser Clemmens. Bobby played and sang on the CD. In 2004, Bobby toured with Elvin Bishop on a two month B. B. King Tour. The tour included Dr. John, Shemeka Copeland, Jay Giles, and The Muddy Waters Band. Bobby currently Plays and Tours with the Elvin Bishop Band in the San Francisco Bay Area and cruises.
