The year was 1967 after Motown and the Beatles. In Baltimore, a band then called the Caravelles went to a studio to record a demonstration or promotional tape to get bookings. At the end of the session, it was decided to include a song written by guitarist Martin Hebron for singer Milton A. Dugger, Jr. and the band called 'Love Is The Thing,' Others heard it and said it would make a good record and as as a result Caravelle Records was born. The group and the label changed names as it was found that Bulova owned a trademark on the name Caravelle. The group became The CHAUMONTS and the label became BAY SOUND records. The label existed from 1967-72 in Baltimore. Artists included The Chaumonts, The Bleu Lights, Clay Hunt, The Soul Clinic, The Fuzzy Kane Trio, Nicky C. & the Chateaux, and Crystal. The legendary George Massenburg was the engineer on the sessions.
