The quest for oil brings out the best and the worst in the characters populating "Black Gold" (1936). Brutal oil baron J.G. Anderson tries to take over wildcat Dan O'Reilly's (Frank Shannon) wells by having his goons sabotage them. This results in O'Reilly falling to his death and his teenage son "Fishtail" (Frankie Darro) inheriting the site. Geologist Hank Langford (Leroy Mason) tells the boy that the property will pay off eventually, but the only way Fishtail can afford to keep it is to bring in a gusher before the deed expires. When Anderson has Langford kidnapped to get him out of the way, he overhears a plot to blow up Fishtail and one of his wells, so he escapes. The geologist does not make it back in time to prevent the explosion, but it has unexpected consequences for everyone.
