Gotta Come Together on CD

Drawing on a legacy of performing, members of THE BEAT HORIZON have played and shared the stage with such greats as: Burning Spear, Culture, Toots and the Maytals, Black Uhuru, Wyclef Jean, De La Soul, Lee Scratch Perry, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, The Wailers, Bruce Hornsby, Melissa Etheridge, The Skatalites, and Yellowman. Comprised of members originating from various parts of the U.S., as well as Jamaica, The Beat Horizon blends reggae, ska, hip-hop, funk, Afro-beat, and Latin, into a sound sound that is eclectic and upbeat. The Beat Horizon, Gotta Come Together It's no surprise the Beat Horizon are starting to make some noise here. Clearly, people want to shake their asses these days, and this ska-soul-funk outfit will oblige them six days a week, and twice on Sunday. Driven by the irresistible front vocals of Donovan "Bigga" Reid, and a rhythm section in drummer Tim Myers and bassist Greg Goodwin that knows how to get a head bobbing, Beat Horizon are a hell of a lot of fun, part Jimmy Cliff, part Widespread Panic. "Jump Around" gets it's dub on, with a great flute solo and a riff on that old House of Pain vibe, even if the two tunes only really share that title. "Fire and Ice" is more pop reggae, with an organ base, electric guitar riffing, and a crooning chorus: "Are you my water, to quench this thirst?" If you've got a thirst for an upstroke beat and plenty of pounding horns, the Beat Horizon should quench that just fine. Sam Pfeifle, Portland Phoenix 10/22/08.
