B-Star, born Branden Thompson, made his entrance into the world on November 24, 1981 in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Having been born into a military family, he traveled the world at a very young age, calling many places home, until finally settling into Fayetteville, North Carolina at the age of ten. Music filled B-Star's home as a child. The soulful sounds of Otis Redding, Patti LaBelle, and Bob Marley fueled his young imagination, building the foundation of a pure, creative mind that was destined to touch the world through music. B-Star recognized his passion very early. Budding, first, as a poet, he filled numerous composition notebooks with everyday thoughts, dreams, sorrows and frustrations in rhythmic prose. Those poems later acquired melodies and hooks, which brought to life the soul of a born songwriter. At the age of sixteen, B-Star received his first beat machine, a humble DR202, which dramatically increased his drive to compose. He continued to pursue this drive as he entered Johnson & Wales University of Rhode Island in the fall of 2000. An advertising major, B-Star found ways to incorporate music into his schoolwork by composing jingles for advertising campaigns. While attending college, he met friend and business partner, Donnie Berry (Dova-D). The two dorm mates made extra money by mixing, then selling compilation CDs, and it soon became evident that B-Star and Donnie shared an undeniable musical and business chemistry. B-Star returned to North Carolina two years later, transferring to North Carolina Agricultural &Technical State University in Greensboro. He quickly found his way back into a creative realm by serving as the event coordinator of a local, monthly open-mic event called The Collective. It was there that B-Star was born; using the stage as his platform to introduce himself as not only a songwriter, but also an MC. Donnie soon joined him in Greensboro, and they established Fortified Entertainment in 2003. "I do this because I feel that my words breathe life. If I can touch at least one person, and relate to them through my own experiences in order to help them get through theirs, then my journey is worth while." --- B*Star.
