Free Roaming Butterfly Hurricanes on CD

Textures of art and music are ingrained into the soul of Athen. She grew up spending untold amounts of hours each day listening to her tiny AM radio, waiting for her favorite songs to come on. This became an obsession. Memorizing the harmonies, melodies, and rhythms of each instrument in every song allowed her to develop the ability to hear all of the individual parts in any piece of music singularly and yet all at once. This combined with an overwhelming interest in art, the practice of writing poetry, drawing, and painting led her to the next eventual step, the making of art through sound. Somewhere along the way she picked up a cheap guitar and songbook and started teaching herself to play. After several attempts to join a friend's band followed by several rejections, Athen decided to make her own way. She downloaded a recording program and taught herself how to use it. Teaching herself to play more instruments throughout the journey of recording as well as the detailed process of mixing, with the help of a friend, and the ins and outs of releasing a CD. Athen also does all of her own artwork whether it be on the computer or drawing by hand. Free Roaming Butterfly Hurricanes is the first stop in her adventure. Each piece represents an emotion, and the emotions together represent one woman\'s journey through a sometimes troubled, sometimes triumphant time in life.
