Chasing the Sun on CD

'Chasing the Sun' is the third release from the Maryland-based pop writer Andy Hawk. He's been writing and recording on an album-a-year clip since his first release in late 2004. 'Chasing the Sun' continues his penchant for sharp, insightful lyrics and adds the element of a frenetic road trip to the musical mix, in evidence on the title track. Others, like 'King of Kenosha' and 'Strange Hello/Goodbye' tell stories you hope are true, although they're told with tongue implanted in cheek. Both tunes continue the tires-on-the-pavement pace of the title track. The rest of the album is a nice mix of mid-tempo musings ('What I've Learned', 'Now or Never Night', 'Kites of April') and ballads dealing with a variety of subjects ('The Saints and the Poets', 'Will You Dance With Me', 'Stranger to the Ground', 'Helium Balloon' and 'Minnesota Girl'. It's a road trip album with all highs and lows that accompany a good adventure. Come along for the ride. 'tonight I turn a different corner, sweeping cobwebs from the moon I'll dance in snow, a story in footprints I'm a helium balloon.'
