A number of the greatest films noir are collected on CLASSIC FILM NOIR. The highlights include Orson Welles's THE STRANGER, with Welles as an escaped Nazi hiding in Connecticut; THE STRANGE LOVE OF MARTHA IVERS, Kirk Douglas's screen debut; and the unusual QUICKSAND, one of the films Mickey Rooney made in an effort to cleanse himself from his goody-goody image. DETOUR, THE HITCH-HIKER (directed by Ida Lupino, one of the few women directors in the classical Hollywood period), and D.O.A. are all high-concept thrillers that exemplify the pinnacle of the film noir genre. Rounding out the collection are TOO LATE FOR TEARS, with noir icon Lizabeth Scott as a cold blooded femme fatale, THE MAN WHO CHEATED HIMSELF, and THE SCAR (aka HOLLOW TRIUMPH).
